September 5, 2013
The Southern Cascades Type 3 Incident Management Team
John Poet, Incident Commander
Fire Information Center: 541-839-3099
Road and area closures are still in effect for the Whiskey Complex due to fire traffic, unpredictable falling snags, smoke, and pockets of fire within the perimeter of the fire line. Closure orders are available on incident information boards or by calling fire information at 541-839-3099 or Tiller Ranger District at (541) 825-3100.
The Whiskey Complex Fires have moved from suppression to fire suppression repair work on areas that were directly affected by fire containment activities These repairs are designed to return the impacted areas to conditions similar to those that existed before the fire occurred.
Crews working on the Buckeye Fire have completed their mop-up objectives. Suppression resources will be in patrol status on the perimeter of the Buckeye Fire while others have been moved to the Whiskey Fire to help complete the mop up objectives.
On the Whiskey Fire suppression resources will continue gridding and patrolling with hand held infrared cameras while fallers remove hazard trees to help make the area safer for firefighters to operate in and aid in mop-up objectives.
Hazard tree removal on portions of the Whiskey Fire have been completed allowing for chipping work, gridding, and hand held infrared camera work to expand into those areas.
Local Tiller Ranger District crews and engines continue to help with work on both the Buckeye and the Whiskey, but are also available for initial attack on the district.
Today temperatures will be in the low 70s with winds out of the West North West 3 to 6 mph with gusts up to 12 mph and a chance of thunderstorms are predicted. There is a 60% chance of wetting rain over the fire area today aiding in fire suppression and keeping the potential for new large fire growth to a minimum.
