The Umpqua National Forest has revised the Forest Order near the Whiskey Complex by reopening parts of the closure area.  Completion of work to mitigate fire hazards has allowed a large portion of the closure area to be reopened to the public on the South Umpqua Road (Forest Service Road 28) and parts of FS Road 29 including South Umpqua Falls Day Use, Camp Comfort, and Skookum Pond.  This revision is effective today at 6:00 am.

The South Umpqua Road is open with the exception that no stopping is allowed for approximately two miles between the junction of FS Road 2826 at Ash Flat Campground and the South Umpqua Day Use access road.  This is to ensure travelers’ safety, as material may still roll down the hills into the roads from the burned area at unpredictable intervals.  The Forest will have mobile patrols monitoring visitors and enforcing the user rules.
Forest Road 29 is open from the Buckeye Bridge east and south to the junction with Forest Road 68.
South Umpqua Falls Campground, Ash Flat Campground and Cover Camp will remain closed until further assessed for hazards.
Access to the Umpqua National Forest from the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest via Forest Roads 6620 (Abbott Prairie), 6640 (Grey Rock), 6610 (Sugar Pine) and spur 800 remain closed at the Forest boundary.

For fire firefighter and public safety, the area closure around the Whiskey Fire remains in effect.
Questions regarding the new closure area can be directed to the Whiskey Complex Fire Information Center at 541-839-3099 or the Tiller Ranger District at 541-825-3100.
